Use

Change outer shell twice a day and inner as needed

Washing

Organic cotton inners must be washed/dried on hot 3 times prior to first use and WILL NOT reach it's full absorbency until approximately 6-8 washes.

• Wash hot, tumble dry before use
• Remove as much solid matter as possible.
• Place soiled soaker pads in a dry diaper pail - no soaking is necessary.
• Wash every 2 days.
• Start with a cold rinse.
• Wash in hot water with half the amount of recommended detergent.
• Do an extra rinse if desired.
• Tumble dry or hang outside for extra freshness and to remove stains.
• Do NOT use bleach, enzyme cleaners or fabric softeners.

My Sax Experience...

Ok ok... let's not get overexcited again. The spelling is correct. I did not misspell the above.

In my effort to promote environmental friendliness and going green, Peekaroobaby has been carrying Envirosax for some time now... a trendy way and convenient way to bringing out those reusable bags...

With so much news on the importance to go green and the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), I am rather sad that some of my attempts to decline plastic bags while grocery shopping failed... simply because the cashier is afraid the security officers will come after them???

For this particular reason, I'd prefer to go shopping at the foreigners-owned super/hypermarkets as they are rather glad I brought my own bag and there's simply no contest on why I should be using their bags instead.

This is one of the few custom orders that got me excited. It is totally custom... most times, my customs are just one of Peekaroobaby's products, tailor made to the customers' desires... the colours, the fabric etc.

This particular one was a very exciting project as Peekaroobaby never sewn this for sale before. Too bad, I forgot to take pictures of the completed project... it will be a very lasting memory, this one.

An addition... to the team

Yes! After much thoughts and consideration, I have finally purchased an overlocker. Much thoughts and considerations went into whether it is necessary for the extra investment on an already tight budget. Then again, it meant better serged edges in everything I sew... so, after much calculations, I have decided to invest in a second hand one.

Special Requests

I am one who sews what I sell. It is no wonder that every now and then, there are some special requests and also custom orders where customers get to choose what they want and how they want it done ;)

Big and absorbent bibs, reversible doll slings (yes! I didn't know someone would be interested enough in doll slings to have them reversible!), pillow case, custom wipes case... bedsheet?? (I was contacted to make a bedsheet out of the baby sling material but really, it is too costly to make one out of the same fabric)... just to name a few.

As far as babywearing is concerned, some are also trying me out for pods and mei tai. Well, I am just happy that the choices to wear our babies are growing but no, I am not ready to sell and promote them as I do pouches. Simply not confident that I can help out enough, with my little experience with them. So, that has to wait until my little Arthur is happy enough with them for me to wear him more with them to work out the pros and cons.

Meanwhile, I understand the frustation of knowing about the existence of these carriers but not being able to obtain them as they are quite pricey to be imported. So, as with some who has contacted me, I will be glad to sew them for you as long as you understand that I am only doing the sewing part and I am really not experienced enough with them.

Wow! Can you believe the year is really coming to an end??

This particular year that I am talking about saw a lot of changes in me... in my surroundings.

For one, I am now a WAHM. **woohoo..** I started the year off as a trainer for an insurance company. Sadly (cos I had to leave it), it was my best jobs ever (in Malaysia) since I returned from Sydney. Was really very heavy hearted to leave... especially with those colleagues of mine planning a surprise farewell party (I was indeed surprised!!) It was like family and I sure would love to stay on longer. A boss that values my work... friendly and willing to help inter department colleagues... don't know what else I could ask for.

Still, from a FTWM, I chose to quit (due to many reasons) and become a SAHM. I have always wanted to be a SAHM (even before I got married!) if we could afford it as I believe the moments spent with your children as you watch them grow up is simply priceless. How true.. I am still enjoying it..

If you asked me then... even if you ask me now... it has never occured to me that I will be in business someday. Even now, 'business' is not so much a business to me as all I ever wanted to do is to spread the joy of babywearing... breastfeeding... cloth diapering... Even now that I have started selling the slings, I would still say that I much prefer blogging about it and sewing them to actually selling them. Then again, of course, when I bumped into someone using my sling... WOW! Just can't find a proper word to describe that feeling！

Perhaps it is from my degree in Business and having a businessman father and a businessman father in law.. people around me has always suggested that I go into this business or that.. but, no... let's just say that I am the kind of person who'd just prefer to get a fixed salary.

So, really, it never occurred to me that someday, I would be selling stuff (made by myself, too!) and I would be setting up stalls in a market!

Busy Busy Busy... measurement for sling

... sewing, sewing, sewing... yes, that's what I've been doing lately... there's so much I wanted to put in blog but just didn't have time enough to sit down and put it all in.. waiting for the train of thoughts...

Anyway, aside from Arthur, sewing occupies most of my time now. Still trying out and improvising the sling... still fishing for feedback.. fishing for comments... fishing for photos...

Of the last sling I sent out, though it is custom-made, there seems to be a little problem with the sizing... a little too large?? That is the first feedback. After having a look at the photo I've received from the new babywearer (don't think I shall publish it here before I get her consent)... it could looks like the positioning could have been the problem. Anyway, she's advised to try a few more times to get comfortable and to wash it (the fabric usually shrinks a little after the first wash) before deciding if it's too large. If it is, then, she can send it back for resizing.

Next thing I know, I'm calling my testers (who'd had experience with the pouch slings beforehand)... MUST find out if it's the problem with MY SIZING... As it seems... it fitted well.. one of them suggests that the problem could be due to incorrect measurement.. hmmm...

The light bulb lighted!!

Because she has used a pouch sling before, she knew exactly how to measure herself. The general rule is to measure from the shoulder to the opposite hip bone.
However, as we discussed further, the hip bone is quite a big piece of bone... while some will measure to just the top part of it... others might have the measuring tape going all to the bottom part of the hip bone... the difference can be 1-2 inches.. which could make a whole lot of comfort difference with the pouch sling.

That's something I shall bear in my mind and keep it in the page of FAQs for my website later..

Up for business?

Well, I am not a business person... and, never will be (if I have the choice)... While this sounds a bit ironic coming from a Business graduate.. I will tell you why...

1. Making profits and meeting targets are depressing to me
2. I am not a risk taker
3. I want to focus on the reason why I left my full time job.. to be there for Arthur and this shall be my number one priority... all the time...
4. Life does not revolve around money... money does not revolve around life...
5. Life shall be beautiful
6. I love to share.. and when this comes out, some might even hate me for sharing what would be regarded as 'trade secrets'.

I really hope that peekaroobaby.com will be where one can tell and share and discuss babywearing.

What's in the name...

Just as the inspiration and motivation to sell baby slings come from my little Arthur, so did the name of my business to be... Peekaroobaby...

Really, it's just Peekaboo (a game my little one enjoys a lot together with hide-and-seek) + Kangaroo （after all, lots of people commented that I look like a kangaroo with a joey in me when I use the sling).

I wanted to have it as just peekaroo.com but unfortunately, the site is taken. So, then, I thought... I can just add a 'baby' to go with it.. problem is.. shall I put it in the front or at the back?? i.e. shall I call it babypeekaroo or peekaroobaby?

I posed the thought to DH and his reply and analysis was a reasonable one. If I were to choose babypeekaroo, it sounds like there's a baby named 'peekaroo'. 'Peekaroobaby' is more appropriate as it suggests that we are peeking into the sling for a baby.. just nice, don't you think?

And, yes... little Arthur likes to play Peekaboo when he's in the sling.

The birth of Peekaroobaby

I have been using the pouch sling for more than a year now... for someone who loves the sling as much as I do... one is never enough... especially since I have moved to a place where I need to climb four flight of stairs up and down every day... So, I decided to get another sling. This time, I managed to find myself a 97%cotton, 3% stretch pouch sling which is locally made. I braved myself to try it out.


I must admit that the Littlepods sling is great find... I had many a good times with it... The leg padding is great for the hip carry position in preventing cut into Arthur's tender skin... Maybe it's the colour red... it attracted a lot of attention.. which led me to stopping and promoting the sling to everyone who came forward to ask.

Again, to a sling lover like me... still, two is not enough.. Since I gave up my job to be a SAHM, I must admit that I have simply been lazing around the house when Arthur takes his rest... it's been quite some time... the crafty side of me needs an outlet... it was then that it dawned upon me that I can sew my own sling! I did the necessary research and lucky me! I got someone gave me the pattern for the pouch sling from US. I began sewing my own sling and wow!... you won't believe the number of slings I've made for myself.

Every time I come across a nice fabric... it's like... "I must make myself a sling from that!".. Then on... it is sling after sling after sling... slings for me... slings for friends... slings here... slings there... I must have more than ten now...

More and more people are attracted to me babywearing Arthur with all those slings that I made... some who asked where I got it from.. they wish they could get one... it was then that I thought.. if I could spend 30 minutes explaining about babywearing every time someone comes up to me and asked about it...

I could start site which can document all these... a site which can aid and promote babywearing within our community... a site where people can go to to find out all about babywearing and more... a site where people can choose to buy a sling from me.. or not... a place where people can meet and discuss about babywearing... it was then that I started sourcing for all the required information which led to the birth of Peekaroobaby...
