Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8686098334460978726.post-71382780915975406462012-04-24T22:30:00.001+08:002012-04-24T22:30:43.942+08:00So you think it's easy? Many people would think that having a second child would be easier as you would have the required experience in dealing with those 'innocent little monsters'... well, not exactly. For those of you who'd asked and for those of you who are wondering... here's my story

Right from pregnancy itself, my journey with a second child is what one would call different, compared to when I was expecting my first. With Arthur, pregnancy was bliss and I could work til the very last week before EDD. With Adrian, the Doctor ordered bed rest... that was only the beginning.

As we get to know him better, we realise our younger one not only looks different from his big brother... He is indeed very different in character, temperament, personal traits...

Breastfeeding... was a bliss right from the star with Adrian, our little one... he even 'rewarded' us with the breast crawl. Hubby was certainly amazed. With his big brother, breastfeeding was literally a total struggle as we had to work out why his little walnut-sized tummy needs to be refilled every hour or so...

Babywearing... unlike Arthur who used to ask for it almost every day... he'd even point to the pouch, Adrian is indifferent to babywearing... similar to how I perceive a car is simply for transport and need not be made a statement of. To Adrian, it is OK if you put him in a carrier... or not. He doesn't mind. He doesn't have a preference. Having achieve toddlerhood, of course he'd prefer freedom of walking around etc... it's still OK to wear him when we are in crowded areas or when Momma needs extra hands... yes, he is indifferent and he somehow understands the functionality and practicality of the carriers.

Cloth Diapering... This is weird... I'd started Arthur on Cloth Diapers cos he had very bad rashes from disposables that cloth diapering seem to take care of. Yet, with little Adrian, it is cloth who made him feel uncomfortable. NO, we did not share their diapers... Adrian had his own brand new ones as a baby (though we did think of letting him have his big brother's share when he's older). That put us back to using disposables... that said, Adrian is the one who could tell us when he needs a poop since day 1...
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8686098334460978726.post-47866181751782711622012-04-23T23:01:00.000+08:002012-04-23T23:01:01.147+08:00Blogging again?Having recently been invited to the Blogging Circle on Facebook... I am itching to blog again?

B.L.O.G.... to me, it is like a acronym for a disease. One that took my time away from my kids... one that I can be totally addicted to checking every minute of the day... if I let it... can I blog again without it 'letting' me get addicted again? I would like to give it another go.

Honestly, many a times, I have indeed attempted to delete this blog for good... then again, I saw that people still checks them out... so, perhaps... maybe... just keep it on for references sake... every now and then, I would still get emails on the topics I have posted... not bad, huh?

So, perhaps... let me try to have a go once again and see if this will work out again. But then again, what topics shall I talk about now???Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8686098334460978726.post-64133729476981152512012-04-12T23:09:00.003+08:002012-04-12T23:11:02.240+08:00Cloth Diapers for salePotty training no.2 so these are no longer necessary... Why did I stop? Well... there are so many reasons to this and the main one is to have some privacy, I guess. Also, it really is taking my time off from my Arthur then... he would be playing by himself while I keep staying online... one minute after another... huh... how can a SAHM find a balance between staying in the know and yet be able to spend more time with kids?Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8686098334460978726.post-84802477880365750372010-05-17T10:01:00.004+08:002010-05-17T10:09:47.814+08:00GroBaby on Sale!We are clearing off our Grobaby products to make way for new ones on the way. If you consider what one can get out of babywearing... bonding, attachment, love... you will ask yourself this question: How can babywearing be sad?

Oh no, if you have been reading about the Safety Warning, no, this is not what it is... That, of course, is sad and heart-breaking, too. So, do have a read if you haven't and learn more about the precautions you shall be observing while babywearing.

The 'sad' I am talking about here is when...

1... You tell your friends about babywearing and promote the use of cloth etc... You even go all the way to make them a carrier or gift one to them... but they are just not into it... or worse, they end up buying a crotch-type carrier

2... You try your best to show one the benefits of babywearing (and, even breastfeeding) only to be shunned and given the negative look as though you are trying to pass them a disease!

3... You didn't even talk much and people give you the lecture on 'Why one shall NOT be carrying their babies'

4...

Have you got anything 'sad' to share in babywearing?Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8686098334460978726.post-23599432645419445312009-09-25T17:02:00.000+08:002009-09-25T17:03:15.396+08:00Come and join us this Sunday!

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8686098334460978726.post-62732499034191967112009-09-20T07:40:00.001+08:002009-09-20T07:41:50.538+08:00Selamat Hari Raya
... Again, it was fever but thankfully, he did not have a fit.

After the last admission, we got informed at what high fever could do and did not want to take chances. This time, unlike before, he had fever on and off for three days before complaining of chills in the middle of the night. Once I heard "I'm cold" and saw his shivering body... we rushed to the hospital. Without DH by my side, I've got to take actions and fast!

It was 4am on the 11th Sept 2009 when we got Arthur to the emergency ward at HUKM, KL. We were back in KL a few days before to attend my brother's wedding registration and I was to go to the Ibu House for a demo to a group of mothers for Malaysian Babywearers. Briefly, we stayed most days of the trip in HUKM.

Upon checking in at ER, (they took the case seriously upon the mentioning that he had febrile fit previously), they did a blood check. Know what?? All these while (even for all the five days with fever), my son is still his active, usual self. When the nurse took the blood sample, my son sang her a song and told her he likes her checking him *slap head**

Anyways, just like the previous admission, his platelet count was low.... and, they suspected dengue this time. Otherwise, we could have gone home and wait for the fever to go away on its own. After admission, his platelet count rose back to normal but he had cough and flu... so, we were moved to a different area... quarantine for suspected H1N1. My heart... sank... Fortunately, the test was negative and we got discharged on Monday.

The thing is... what is this virus that keep giving blood samples a low platelet count and makes a child suffer from fever for five days?? On both occassions, we are not the only ones with this problem... Scary... especially when he had a fit the previous time. We almost thought we lost him.

Why not egg white?? We did use egg white but like previously mentioned, it will only bring the temperature down... the virus will still need to be taken care by the medications. With the use of egg whites again, we managed to keep his fever at an average 38C... once the egg whites 'cooked'... we can feel the temperature rising again...

As it is, we are already washing hands quite frequent with the proper method.... before and after we eat... when we get home from an outing... whenever we felt our hands are dirty... What else can we do to better protect ourselves??Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8686098334460978726.post-66254934795318063322009-09-03T23:08:00.002+08:002009-09-03T23:28:55.895+08:00And my boy gave me the solution ;)We are out quite often these days... as my little one grows up and become more active these days, we have more plans for the day... playgroups, little excursions, shopping... and lately, he pestered me enough to start him on the Pingu English class that one of my friends started. That leaves us coming home about 3-4pm each day... he's tired out, of course. And, most times, he fell asleep in the car and I will have to carry him from the car to our home... four storeys, without lift access.

Now that he has walked 'enough' and climbed the stairs 'enough' times, he knows only too well that 8 flights of stairs to home is a tiring task... so, he will ask me to carry him. Momma's standard answer is that he is now a big boy and is too heavy for Momma to carry...

Well, after many of those <del>excuses</del> reasoning, he finally worked things out and gave Momma THE solution.

Today, as we are driving home, we had a chat and he did the reasoning this time...

Arthur: Momma... do you have a sling?
Momma: Yes, I have many of them at home...
Arthur: You can use the sling and babywearing, then I won't be too heavy for you to carry
Momma: (hmmm... you are right) I'll try next time, ok?
Arthur: Ya... you can put one in the car and then can carry me home...

Oh, well, why not?? Since when he is asleep, there is no choice but to carry him up. I might just leave a wrap or my Beco in the car ;)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8686098334460978726.post-69054944911197606012009-08-28T04:32:00.002+08:002009-08-28T05:06:28.088+08:00Miraculous Egg White brings fever downOn the 13th August, as we were getting ready for the trip to KL for the many Malaysian Babywearers event lined up over the weekend, something shocking happened... my little Arthur had a fit due to high fever and was rushed to the ER of Hospital Seberang Jaya.

Briefly, the fever started the morning of the day itself and as what I'd normally do (as there was nothing else but just the fever), I'd given him Paracetamol to bring the temperature down. After giving him the medication twice, it was still no better. As we were already packed for KL the night before, DH and I have agreed that we will first bring him to the Paed before we start our trip. Just as we were leaving our place, my little one was throwing a tantrum and asking for the jossticks for prayers. He knelt beside DH who had just finished praying and was eyeing me rudely... when DH was ready to pass him the jossticks, he did not answer or move but his eyes were still eyeing me rudely... after a few attempts of calling him to get his prayers done and no response (we thought he's still acting angry and just being rude not responding), DH put the jossticks down and pick him up... only to find him vomiting and urinating (he was already toilet trained at 2), lips turning purplis, only showing the whites of his eyes.... with no response.

I don't know if there is any word that can explain that moment better than shock. It might last a few minutes but to me, it seemed like eternity. We (or, was it just me??) were so shocked and frightened of losing him that we kept calling his name out loud and shook gently... things you see from TV on reviving someone who's passed out and he came to. As I rushed down the steps, cradling my little one, I can still feel that tremendous fear like it is happening now... I kept talking to him and made sure I ask him lots of questions se he doesn't pass out again.

Is it H1N1? Is he going to suffer? Will he stay with us long enough before we can reach the hospital??? It is something you would not even want to wish on your worst enemy.

Later, we learned that he had what is called a fit and the Dr informed us that it is quite normal for children between 5months old to 6 years old to experience it. As 'normal' as it is, it can still result in brain damage and things that you might not want to imagine... So, my little Arthur was warded. After checks and blood samples, the Dr confirmed it's just a viral fever... The word 'viral' got me worried as it was playgroup day and he was out playing with his mates...

Two nights in the hospital and the fever still didn't seem to go away. I was advised to keep wiping him down with cold water etc. etc. but nothing really worked. The fever went away with medication but when it has worn out, it returned...

My Sis called and gave me a remedy to bring the temperature down - FAST. Later, I learned it is something my grandma used to use on her children and us... RAW EGG WHITES.

How it works?? Mom said my grandma used to just spread the egg whites over the forehead and chest as how you'd brush pastry with them... Sis improvised it and advised me to "soak some facial cotton in egg whites and leave them on Arthur's forehead and chest (i.e. where it is most hot)... you can see the cotton dry up slowly and the egg whites cooked". So, DH brought a couple of eggs and we tried it out... it worked... within MINUTES! While medication is still necessary to fight the virus, the egg whites sure brought the temperature and our worries down. I have tried Bye-Bye fever and that sort and it didn't work.

My father-in-law brought other 'remedies' but I was not sure if I wanted to feed Arthur those... Admittedly, I am quite sceptical with 'remedies' that goes in the mouth. So, the eggs whites is a good recommendation I'd follow as it does not require swallowing.

Who would have thought something cheap and readily available works MIRACULOUSLY. Arthur didn't like me wiping him so much and I didn't really feel like disturbing his sleep by wiping him so it is a really good remedy that WORKS! Even the Doctors were afraid of the sudden change and would not discharge us until the next routine check. I still remember the Dr saying... "he looks and acts so active but it's hard to discharge him cos he's had high fever for 2 days... let's wait til later in the evening".

Still unbelieving, I did a search on the WWW and well... not only we use this but lots of people (but me :( ) has been using this for a long time. Some would put the whites on the sole of one's feet, too. Reading on further, it seems like a good cure for burns, too...

One of the better ones I've got from searching (http://www.myhomeremedies.com/topic.cgi?topicid=84)...
"I know of an exceptionally effective natural remedy for healing burns and lowering a fever: egg whites.

Egg whites are by far the best method to lower a high temperature within MINUTES! When I was about 4 or 5 years old, I had acquired a fever so high that I started to hallucinate. My mother was in a panic, she feared brain damage if something didn't lower the fever and FAST. My grandma told her to soak 2 cloths or hankerchiefs in egg whites and put on the soles of the feet (cover with socks). The egg whites instantaneously start to draw the temperature DOWN from the brain (where it is dangerous) to the feet (where it can do no damage). After that incident my mom used this method successfully every time I had high temp.

The egg whites are also a miracle cure for burns, even severe ones. Soak or coat affected area in egg white. While the egg white is still wet you will feel no pain from the burn. As soon as it dries up the pain comes back so reapplication is necessary. This method not only aleviates the pain it actually heals and prevents scarring from the burn.

I submited this remedy to earthclinic.com and there has been a lot of positive feed back: http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/fever.html

I would like to let more people know about the miraculous effectiveness of treating fevers and burns with egg whites so please post this on your site if you deem fit.

Best regards, Ani from Ontario, Canada"Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8686098334460978726.post-1809598473713978842009-08-11T21:51:00.003+08:002009-08-11T21:56:41.582+08:00Am I getting too boring? It's World Breastfeeding Week from the 1st Aug to the 7th Aug 2009. In conjunction with it, I have been invited to quite a few places... for business and to promote MBW.

As I go around promoting our group and promoting babywearing... I hear myself asking this question over and over again... am I getting too boring? It is seeming like wherever I go... I repeat myself... again... and... again... in this case, I have been introducing people to babywearing... again... and... again...

But, then again... it feels kind of out of place if I don't do the introduction to the many carrier options available.

Hmmm...

Even at the Penang gathering these days... having a topic seems to be difficult. Especially most of the attendees are regulars now...

And, to make it seems like the world of babywearing is at a standstill (to me), IBW09 keeps hanging...

Could it just be me thinking too much of things? Or, could it be age getting at me?Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8686098334460978726.post-19941212706848625522009-08-10T18:15:00.002+08:002009-08-10T18:20:33.631+08:00Mojo jo jo...It has never occurred to me that having the 'mojo to blog' is of such importance. What is the difference between the Stretchy Medley Wrap and the Woven Medley Wrap? While the Stretchy wrap is made of knitted fabric (think T-shirt fabric), the Woven wrap is made of woven fabric (think bedsheets)

2. If the answer to no. 1 is in the material used, how are the materials different and which is better?
Knitted fabrics are stretchy and can be more comfortable (compare wearing a T-Shirt to a Shirt) but due to it's 'stretchiness', will tend to sag and pull you down as the baby grows heavier. Thus, Stretchy wraps are usually recommended for use with babies up to 6 months old although it is not surprising to see one using it beyond that. Also, because it is 'stretchy', it is possible to pop baby in and out of the wrap without re-wrapping the whole thing.... Woven fabrics are generally sturdier and more lasting. The Medley woven wraps are strong enough to be used with babies from newborn to toddlerhood. At around 15kgs is when one usually feels the strain of wearing a toddler in a wrap. That said, there are a variety of woven wraps in the market. Be sure to check with the vendor if the woven wrap you are gettin is suitable for use in hot climate. The Medley wraps are sturdy yet cooling enough for the Malaysian climate :)

3. Have you heard of the Moby Wrap, how are the Medley's wrap different from the Moby Wrap?
The Moby wrap is similar to the Stretchy Medley in that it is also made of knitted fabric.

4. What is the maximum weight the Medley wrap can carry?
In wrapping with a woven wrap... this question usually goes back to the babywearer's own endurance level. Generally, you can comfortable wear your baby in a wrap until he or she is about 15kgs.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8686098334460978726.post-61619319829966220332009-07-24T00:07:00.002+08:002009-07-24T00:09:42.123+08:00Medley Wraps are in Malaysia!Medley is a Czech producer of wraps, Mei Tai, Ponchos and the Alpino Carrier. It's really a scam!I have received an email containing the following message a few days ago. It is ver similar to what I have received and disregarded years ago. What struck me to actually blog about this is... I received THAT phone call yesterday. It was an automated voice and the amount is exactly as stated in the email that I read: RM4,982. I simply hung up because I have just read that email a few days ago.

Imagine... if I hadn't received or read that email... could I have been a victim?? The simple thought of it is scary enough...

And, yes, the number that called was +601300808888. My hubby got a call from the same number on the same day, too. Only he didn't pick it up. It's his habit not to take any calls from unknown party. Since his line is a sub from mine... we are wondering if this has got anything to do with the telco we are attached to??

Anyway, please read and beware!

"Dear friends,

I have been cheated recently. So I would like to share my experience with you all on how the tactic they use. You can forward this to your friends so they will know about it

1) On Saturday, I receive a phone call from AMBank, a system playback message announce that "You have outstanding balance of RM4,982 for the AMBank credit card, kindly make the payment asap. For customer service, please press 1"(This is the first step, they make you angry. When you angry, you lost your mind)

2) Since I do not have credit card service with AM Bank, I press 1 to talk to the customer service. And after providing my name and IC number, the customer service told me that there is a credit card under my name. I respond that I did not applied it before. The customer service say is it possible that people stole your info and make a credit card from it. She suggest me to call the Bank Negara - Pusat Pengurusan Kad Palsu to make a report so that they will investigate on it. Since it is Sunday, she suggest I make the phone call on Monday and provide me a phone number 03-8659 0241.(This is a fake number, Bank Negara do not have such department. Bank negara number is 03-2698-8044 )

3) On Monday morning, I make a phone call to the given number, I can hear the announcement "Terima Kasih kerana menhubungi Bank Negara..." After that I talk to a guy that speak in Malay. He call me back later with the same callerID, and start to ask my detail of complain. He also keep on telling me that if what I say is not true, I will be caught by police and jail. He then ask for all my credit card detail, have I ever use credit card on ATM, my ATM card and the balance. He also told me not to expose the report detail to my friends as it may affected the investigation result. After that he give me a report number and mentioned that a colleague from other department will help me to secure all my bank accounts.(They do this step to make you believe that they are true, so that you will corporate with them)

4) After a while, I receive a phone call from a girl, she told me that they have suspend all my bank accounts now. But the ATM card they cannot do it remotely, hence she want me to go to the ATM machine, and key in some special "PIN" to stop the card. After I reach the ATM, she call me and told me that later what I see on screen is not the true info. I just need to key in the PIN given by her. So I just follow the step and key in everything. She then ask me to destroy the transaction slip and throw it away. Then told me within 3 days cannot use my ATM cards and other bank accounts.(Key in the "PIN" at ATM is fake also, those PIN is actually somebody account number and the amount to be transfer.)

My suggestion
Always call back to the Bank to verify, are you really have that credit card?Bank always have a tollfree number, including Bank Negara. And you can easily find the real bank number on internet "Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8686098334460978726.post-47716240431853210152009-04-27T02:28:00.003+08:002009-04-27T02:40:55.796+08:00Disgusted by babywearing?Nothing discourages me to promote babywearing more than the look of disgust on people's faces at the mention of carrying their babies. We are talking about people who feel babies shall be 'trained' from 'young' to be independent. We are talking about people who feel like carrying their babies will only result in clingy babies... How and what can we do in these situations other than to just keep the babywearing love to ourselves and queitly hope in our hearts that it will make sense to them one day, hopefully in time, that loving their baby (and, carrying them) does not mean spoiling them and certainly will not result in clingy babies.

Looking at my own almost-3 Arthur, he is much more confident than many kids his age. Indeed, he is much more independent and confident than his school-going cousins. Having worn him EVERYDAY since he was 10 months old til the time he found his legs at 18 months, Arthur was never really a clingy boy.

Indeed, ask anyone who knows him (well or not), you can find that he is very sociable and well, shall I say, entertaining, at times ;)

Before you feel disgusted at the thought of babywearing or even breastfeeding, think again... wouldn't you feel more confortable, happy and more trustworthy shall you have someone hold you close when you needed a hug? Would you really prefer to cry by yourself, in a corner of the room, so you can train yourself up to be more self-dependent?

Bear in mind, what you are 'training' your child today goes a long way. How are you 'training' them to be independent? If it is through encouragement that they should suppress their feelings and not show it... how else do they take care of stress? The world is, after all, getting more stressful by the day and before you know it, Stress Management could very well be a pre-school subject one day.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8686098334460978726.post-90613987227216035452009-04-23T21:00:00.002+08:002009-04-23T21:04:37.434+08:00Children learn what they liveIf children live with criticism,
They learn to condemn...
If children live with hostility,
They learn to fight...
If children live with ridicule,
They learn to be shy...
If children live with shame,
They learn to feel guilty...
If children live with tolerance,
They learn to be patient...
If children live with encouragement,
They learn to be confident...
If children live with praise,
They learn to appreciate...
If children live with fairness,
They learn justice...
If children live with security,
They learn to have faith...
If children live with approval,
They learn to like themselves...
If children live with acceptance and friendship,
They learn to find love in the world...

~Dorothy Law NolteUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8686098334460978726.post-42244577190781062072009-04-23T02:32:00.002+08:002009-04-23T02:42:55.503+08:00Glitter Ball

This is my favourite playgroup project thus far. No more fussing with the shoulder cap or spreading the sling across your back because this design puts everything exactly where it is supposed to be - the first time. The light padding on the shoulder is beautifully invisible. The rails are still unppaded for easy adjusting. The added ease of use and comfort in this design stands head and shoulders above the competition. Fans say it is the perfect first sling for new babywearers.

Additional Features

Wear newborns through toddlers in a variety of positions

Made of beautiful hand-loomed, breathable fabrics

Built in pocket for keys, diaper, cell phone etc.

Unpadded, open tail that allows for perfect adjustability and is convenient as a nursing cover

Fits easily into a diaper bag or purse

Machine washable

Recommended for children up to 35 pounds

Instructional DVD included

Get it from Charantya Store today!
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2
